Truck Solutions: How to avoid E-ZPass Toll Violations

E-zPass toll system

Have you or a truck driver you know been pulled over for an E-ZPass toll violation? It’s not out of the norm. This year E-ZPass toll violations are increasing at staggering rates.

BESTPASS, a toll partner of the MMTA has monitored E-ZPass toll violations and the organization has seen an increase in violation appeal.  The toll agencies have rejected the majority of violation appeals related to the E-ZPass system of tolling.

Some truck drivers have been subjected to more than $1,000 fees for five violations. The most common E-ZPass toll violation has been going through an E-ZPass toll lane in a truck or vehicle that did not have an account. This is identified by license plates.

Any truck driver that signs up for an E-ZPass account is required to list all license plates used as company vehicles. This is mandatory because E-ZPass tolls are paid electronically.

Transponders cannot be used in company vehicles. The only exception is when a vehicle license plate is already on an E-ZPass account.

It is important to not use a transponder in a company vehicle to avoid violation tolls and hefty fees.

The best prevention is to keep track of all license plate numbers used on the E-ZPass account.

As a company owner, you should add these types of vehicles to your E-ZPass account:

  • Registered vehicles
  • Leased vehicles
  • Rented vehicles
  • Contracted vehicles

The E-ZPass system is great for companies that have drivers cross bridges and major highways on the regular.

Saving minutes spent driving can save both time and money for your company.

It’s easy to use. All a driver has to do is place the E-ZPass box on the windshield to pay tolls. All transactions are electronically recorded so you may keep track of the toll usage and your company account balance at all times.

Best of all, the E-ZPass can replenish your account any time you are low if you grant the E-ZPass system authorization to charge your corporate credit card.

E-ZPass only lanes make truck driving faster, quicker and easier. Do not speed through E-ZPass lanes to avoid administrative fees. Speed should not exceed 5 miles per hour.
