The Shipping Seasons for Truckers

Trucking Shipping SeasonsFor any involved with the trucking industry, it is always helpful to have an understanding of the industry. Whether you are a consumer using the trucks, a driver that does the shipping, or the maintenance crews for the trucks themselves, you need to understand when the industry is most active and when it begins to slow. This understanding with all parties can help shipment run smoothly and more effectively.

The shipping seasons are as follows for truckers:

  • From January to March, the trucking industry is going through a slower time following the holiday season. Customers are seeing lower rates and the trucking companies are still experiencing a decent amount of business.
  • From April until July, trucking companies are seeing an increase in business due to produce shipments. This added business usually equals higher rates and busier schedules. Even if the rates are higher than the previous three months, it is still a decent time to ship because produce businesses will be turning a profit.
  • During the fall months of August, September, and October, retail customers will once again increase the amount of business trucking companies are experiencing. While other industries may shy away from shipping during this time, retail industries are more likely to ship because they have the profit and the product available.
  • Between the months of November and December, the trucking industry tends to see a major jump in activity followed by a sudden drop. The increase is normally before the Thanksgiving holiday as consumers’ ship out the rest of their product for the holiday season.
