3 Ways to Get Your Truck Unloaded and Reloaded in a Timely Fashion

When you’re a trucker, time spent waiting for your freight to be loaded and unloaded is time that you could be on the road earning more miles.

No one likes waiting. When you’re a trucker, time spent waiting for your freight to be loaded and unloaded is time that you could be on the road earning more miles. You can only work so many hours per day, so naturally you want to get the most done in those hours that you possibly can. Here are some tips for keeping the freight moving!

Call Ahead

Every load you transport is going to have scheduled pickup and delivery times. That said, you can’t really schedule traffic and weather patterns, they just happen. If you find that you are going to be a little bit early for a drop off, simply call the receiver and ask if they are available a little earlier. If they say no, just wait and go at your scheduled time.

Be Friendly

The shipping and receiving staff members you come into contact with are people too. Like anyone else, they won’t want to deal with the angry, gruff truck driver who complains loudly at even the smallest inconvenience. Just being nice to people will go a really long way. The staff will appreciate it, and you don’t have to waste energy being mad all the time.

Start Up a Conversation

Along with being friendly, it is beneficial for you to start up conversations with shippers and receivers. If you want to get your truck unloaded and reloaded, the shipping departments you come into contact with should know a bit about you. If you just hide out as soon as your truck is backed in, the workers have no reason to care about your time. If you’re nice and conversational, they will want to be more helpful. All it takes is a minute or two to just introduce yourself and ask someone how their day is going. A little goes a long way.
