Avoiding Counterfeit Truck Parts

Unfortunately, there are all sorts of scam artists out there trying to peddle counterfeit truck parts and it’s not always easy to spot the fake.

If your truck needs to have something replaced, it is extremely important that you make sure you’re replacing the faulty component with a quality part. Unfortunately, there are all sorts of scam artists out there trying to peddle counterfeit truck parts and it’s not always easy to spot the fake.

Red Flags

There are several indicators that you may be dealing with inauthentic parts.

  • If the price sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Parts are sold without authenticating documentation.
  • Parts are lower-than-expected quality.

For the most part, if something feels off about a purchase just don’t go through with it. You can be held liable if something were to happen as a result of the use of inferior or counterfeit truck parts.

Details Matter

When purchasing truck parts, ensuring that they are the genuine article is essential. One way that you can do this is to pay close attention to all of the details of your purchase. Packing slips should not appear altered or tampered with. If the slip uses cryptic codes instead of product names, this can also be an indicator. When purchasing from a specific company, make sure that company’s name is on everything, from the packing slip to the actual part itself. Spelling, logo appearance, shape, and color of the product delivered should all match the appearance of the product in the manufacturer’s catalog. If you suspect that parts you have could be fake, contact the manufacturer right away!

Go with What You Know

Your truck is your livelihood. You want to make sure it’s getting the best treatment possible so that it can run at optimal performance. To ensure this, take a “go with what (and who) you know” approach. This means purchasing directly from the manufacturer or an authorized distributor that you know and trust. If you don’t recognize a name, don’t purchase it unless it is recommended by a trusted and reliable source.

Keep in mind that a lot of counterfeit risks can be mitigated by using some common sense. The key is to remain alert and vigilant and to just use some common sense.
