Read on for a few tips for preparing your fleet for winter weather.
Tip #1: Check your tires.
Underinflated tires are one of the biggest causes of truck accidents. Not to mention, your all-weather tires are probably not fully equipped to handle heavy ice and snow. Trucks are incredibly heavy, and need impeccable traction in order to be safe enough for driving purposes.
Tip #2: Change your oil.
When the weather is colder, oil thickens. Thick oil does not circulate through the engine nearly as well, which can lead to serious malfunction. In order to prevent this, you should change out your oil for something thinner, which will help lubricate your engine during the winter.
Tip #3: Replace the battery.
Because trucks need a lot of power, they need a particularly strong battery. Batteries don’t last forever–about 48 to 72 months on average–so it’s important to keep them up-to-date. An important part of maintenance is making sure your truck runs smoothly for as long as possible. Cold weather also drains your battery faster, so if it’s on its last legs, don’t think you can skate through the winter on a bad battery. Replace it now and save yourself the headache.
