Do you need transmission repair work? Make sure all repairs are addressed before you head out on the road.

Transmission problems are no joke when you’re on the road. Not only can your engine fail to start, but you can endanger the lives of any driver around your truck. How can you tell if your engine may need some transmission repair work? Pay attention to the warning signs below!

Jerking or Grinding When Shifting

If you notice your vehicle is jerking or you hear a grinding sound coming from the engine, it may indicate a transmission problem. Jerking is more common in automatic transmissions, and grinding can occur in manual ones. These happen because of hesitations during gear shifting or normal wear and tear.

Clunking or Buzzing Sounds

Abnormal sounds in your truck engine should always be cause for concern. If you hear clunking, humming, whining, or clunking, you should immediately have your transmission checked by a mechanic. They could indicate several problems with your engine, not just the transmission!

Leaking Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluid is vital for keeping your engine at a suitable running temperature. This type of fluid is a dark red color, so if your vehicle is leaking and you notice the fluid is a dark red or deep brown, you’ll know you may need transmission repair work. It’s essential to bring your truck to a mechanic for this issue since using the incorrect transmission fluid type can also cause shifting and gear issues.

Unresponsive When Shifting or Won’t Stay in Gear

A slipped gear on the highway is hazardous, not just for a truck driver but also for all drivers on the road. A truck that won’t stay in gear may have a transmission issue but could also have a problem with the control system and sensors or the shifting cable.

Burning Smell

Typically, when any vehicle smells like something’s burning or is smoking, it’s a sign that something is critically wrong. A burning smell without any leaking transmission fluid could signify that your fluid is burning inside the engine. If any transmission fluid is burnt, you’ll notice various problems crop up like not being able to shift your gears, overheating, and engine smoking.
