4 Things That Can Cause Your Truck to Break Down

4 Things That Can Cause Your Truck to Break Down
Avoid breakdowns by keeping your truck maintained!

A truck breakdown can put you behind schedule. That can stress you out and make you anxious about how you will meet your deadlines. This problem can damage your confidence, especially if you are just starting out in your trucking career. So what can cause it to happen? It’s time to find out.

Your Tires

Without your tires, your truck can’t go that far – or anywhere, for that matter. Make sure your tires are always inflated and are in good condition after each run. The treads could have worn off, or the treads are getting too low for long hauls. This means that you will need to keep an eye on the weather reports all along your next route, because slick roads will be more treacherous when you don’t have any traction. A pre-trip inspection could make the difference between getting your cargo where it needs to go or a delay that makes you late on your delivery.

Your Brakes

Every vehicle on the road needs a set of reliable brakes. Your truck is no exception when you want to avoid a breakdown at all costs. When you break down, you will need to be towed, which can take even longer and slow down your progress. The air supply could be experiencing problems, or the water intake has become contaminated. There are also problems with rust, air pressure, and balancing. Avoid out-of-service citations by making sure your brakes are intact.

Your Electrical System

Before heading out on your next trip, ensure that your truck’s electrical system is good to go. Your headlights can’t go out during a storm, or else you’ll be driving blind. Plus, you want to make sure that the engine turns over and there’s nothing wrong with the battery. If there is, then you need to cut down on the amount of time you allow your engine to idle when you’re actively driving.

Your Cooling System

Finally, make sure there’s nothing wrong with your truck’s cooling system. If the engine overheats, then your truck will almost certainly break down. Plus if you get too hot, you’ll be uncomfortable and unable to do your job, since you’ll be too distracted to focus on the road.
