Does Your Semi-Truck Have Transmission Trouble?

Middleton & Meads Semi-Truck Transmission Trouble

There are a few tell-tale signs to watch for that indicate your semi-truck might be having transmission trouble.

Nobody enjoys dealing with transmission problems, whether it’s for a semi-truck or a standard sedan. Transmission trouble can have a negative impact on the rest of the vehicle, and they require immediate attention due to this. When you’re a truck driver, your truck is your livelihood, so keeping it in good repair is critical to staying on the road and continuing to take on work. If your truck experiences any symptoms of transmission trouble, head straight over to your trusted truck repair shop to have the issue diagnosed and repaired right away.

Gear Shifting Issues

If you’re having any of the several gear-shifting issues that can occur, there’s a good chance it’s being caused by your truck’s transmission. This includes your gears struggling to engage, failing to stay in gear, your truck taking a while to get into gear, high engine revving between gears, and transmission slips. Any and all of these point to a likely transmission problem that needs to be looked at by a professional truck mechanic.

Strange Sounds

Strange noises don’t always mean that there’s transmission trouble, but it can be the culprit depending on the noise and its source. Clanging, humming, and grinding are all noises that could point to a transmission in need of repair. In particular, a grinding noise that occurs when you’re trying to shift gears is indicative of low transmission fluid or worn parts.

Sluggish Clutch

A sluggish clutch, or a dragging clutch, is a clutch that fails to disengage when you lift your foot from the pedal. This can be a precursor to some of the gear shifting issues previously mentioned, which will make your drive a struggle if not repaired right away. This is one of the tell-tale signs that your truck’s transmission has a problem that needs to be solved.

Transmission Fluid Leak

When you’re doing your morning truck inspection, one of the things you should always be on the lookout for is fluid leaks. If your truck is leaking transmission fluid, you likely have a hole that needs to be repaired. Low transmission fluid can cause many of the other problems listed in this post, so it’s important to keep a close eye on your truck in case this does occur. The earlier you catch it, the better off you’ll be.
