5 Essential Winter Truck Driving Safety Tips

Friday, January 25th, 2013

Driving a truck on a dry road is no easy task and it is definitely a challenge to truck drive on snow and ice. This article will provide winter truck driving safety tips to help you prevent a truck crash.

Sometimes snow plows and sanding crews won’t be able to clear all the roads you’ll travel in the truck.

Snow and ice highways are common winter challenges you’ll face in an 18 wheeler.

Here are some driving safety tips to help you with your winter trucking:

  • Have deep tread tires for winter truck driving. They are known as winter tires and designated with a snowflake on a mountain.
  • Always replace your windshield wiper blades during the winter. You should also make sure your windshield washer system has anti-icing fluid.
  • Have your brakes inspected and practice stomp-stay-steer during break emergencies.
  • Be gentle with winter truck driving. Don’t press down on the accelerator pedal hard to make sure the truck doesn’t spin out. Be gentle with the brake pedal to prevent the truck from going into a skid.
  • Last but not least make sure all snow and ice are removed from the windows, lights and wipers of your truck before travelling.

Middleton & Meads is here to provide you preventative truck maintenance, mechanical repairs, collision repairs and more for proper truck maintenance.
