House Bill 1051: Increasing Driving Costs for Maryland Motorists
In an effort to increase revenue, Maryland House Ways & Means Committee Chair, Sheila Hixson (D-20) and Delegate James Gilchrist (D-17) recently introduced House Bill 1051.
Synopsis: Altering the definition of a “taxable service” under the sales and use tax to impose the tax on specified services; exempting from the sales tax the sale of a parking facility or service by a political subdivision of the State; etc.
If passed, House Bill 1051 will expand sales tax to incur motor vehicle repairs and services, including:
• Service contracts
• Extended warranty contracts
• Road service
• Towing
House Bill 1051 will be costly for every Maryland car owner, and will also raise insurance premiums for all drivers.
For the above reasons, AAA is urging you to ACT NOW and write your personal General Assembly representatives (House and Senate) as well as members of the Ways & Means Committee to voice your strong opposition to taxing motor vehicle repairs and towing in House Bill 1051 through the AAA Issues Action Center.
