Getting Your Fleet Ready for Spring

Getting Your Fleet Ready for Spring

To guarantee that your fleet is prepared for spring, you should follow these steps.

Before you begin work for the spring season, you should make sure that your fleet is ready for what the new season will bring. This means getting the necessary maintenance procedures completed. To guarantee that your fleet is prepared for spring, you should follow these steps.

Get Started on Maintenance Early

As temperatures keep getting higher and your project dates start to add up, you should get your machines inspected a couple of weeks prior to sending your fleets out for service. Consult your manual, and abide by the post-storage procedures it mentions.

It’s also for the best if you ask for maintenance training from a local equipment dealer who can give you advice on the right techniques to try.

Perform Cleaning Tasks

This part of fleet preparation can often go overlooked, but nonetheless, it’s an important step to get you prepared for the spring season. Make sure you clean off all of your equipment before using it again. All of the grime that accumulated the year before should have gotten removed before you stored all of your equipment. Even so, it’s still a decent thought to do a little bit of cleanup before you return your equipment to service.

There’s more than cleanup that you have to do, though. You also need to lubricate all components of your machine and make sure that you have greased the exposed cylinder rods as well. Lastly, take old warning and machine safety decals, and replace them with new ones.

Inspect Your Battery

Before the busy season begins, you should perform a battery inspection, connecting your battery to the machine. If your battery is one that requires periodic charging, you should think about using a trickle charger. This gives your battery a longer lifespan by having voltage maintained more slowly. Battery connections will also have to get cleaned and inspected at this point because you need to be sure you don’t have any terminals that have corroded, which can cause problems with starting and charging.

Gather Parts for Later

You never want to be without the supplies you need, so make sure you have whatever pieces and fluids you need, including air filters, engine oil, grease, etc. This lowers how much downtime you have if anything ever breaks during a job.
