Myths About Truck Drivers Debunked!

Myths About Truck Drivers Debunked Middleton & Meads

Did you know that top-level truck drivers can make over $60,00 a year?

There are many misconceptions about truck drivers. Today we’re going to debunk a few of these myths. If you’re considering a career in the trucking industry, then we’re here to tell you that there are many benefits behind it. Truck driving isn’t for everyone, but many people enjoy fulfilling, life-long careers out of it. Here are four myths!

Truck Drivers Don’t Have a High Earning Potential.

Did you know that top-level truck drivers can make over $60,00 a year? And, honestly, that’s being modest. Truck drivers receive bonuses as well. That, coupled with overtime hours, significantly increases a truck driver’s earning potential. The reality is that it’s rare for truck drivers to have eight-hour days.

Then, there are student loans to consider. Typically, going to truck driving school doesn’t leave students in debt compared to if they were to go to an academic two-year or four-year college would. Most CDL programs cost no more than $7,000. When you compare the small student loan debts to a truck driver’s earning potential, choosing a career in the truck driving industry is a no-brainer. You won’t have to spend too much of your paycheck paying off student loans. You can forward to putting that money into your pocket.

Truck Drivers Are Only Men

While statistics show that women truck drivers are relatively low, there are no limitations on a truck driver. Anyone, regardless of gender, can see the advantages behind this career choice. There isn’t any gender pay discrimination. All it takes is the proper training.

Being a Truck Driver Is An Easy Job

When you choose to be a truck driver, you make what some people call “easy money”. This notion comes from the fact that a career in truck driving is stable and consistent. You will always have job security. The world will always need products and goods. However, truck driving within itself isn’t an easy task. When you have to control up to 80,000 pounds or 40 tons, there are many technicalities behind this task on top of loading and unloading your truck, logging your hours, and communicating with dispatchers to ensure that you meet customer demands. Once again, truck driving is not for everyone.

Truckers Cause The Most Accidents on The Road

More accidents occur on the road because of passenger vehicles. The American Trucking Association reports that 80% of accidents are between cars and trucks, not commercial trucks. Given that a truck driver has more restrictions and has to have a spotless record for them to be on the road, accidents between commercial trucks and passenger vehicles don’t happen as often as people believe.
